There’s no denying that the region around Dorrigo and Ebor is filled with natural beauty. We’re talking about rushing waterfalls, bubbling creeks, large granite formations and an abundance of native Australian fauna and flora. Much of the area has been recognised as too valuable to develop, with a number of protected parks including the mountainous Dorrigo National Park and rainforest covered New England National Park. It’s a great place to head off to for a regional escape, but choosing where to stay might be tricky – there are so many great options and hidden gems! Dorrigo Mountain Holiday Park
Surrounded by stunning World Heritage National Parks, the Dorrigo Mountain Holiday Park is the perfect spot for a relaxed camping or caravanning holiday. The park offers powered tent and caravan sites, as well as a coin-operated laundry, free BBQ area, kids playground and communal camp fire. If you’d prefer to stay inside there are also ten self-contained family cabins and six self-contained double cabins. All cabins have an ensuite bathroom and come with a Wi-Fi hotspot and functional kitchenette.

Lookout Mountain Retreat
With views from the mountain to the sea, Lookout Mountain Retreat is well positioned to make the most of your visit to the Dorrigo Plateau. It’s only a short drive to Dorrigo National Park, Dangar Falls, Dorrigo Sky Walk, and the retreat itself is surrounded by acres of well kept lawns and gardens. There are 26 rooms all of which have been refurbished to offer a stylish yet affordable space to stay. The retreat also has a licensed restaurant onsite open two nights a week, and in-room dining is available if ordered in advance.

Heritage Hotel Motel Dorrigo
Located in the middle of town, the Heritage Hotel Motel Dorrigo is surrounded by local businesses and is only a short walk from the Dorrigo Visitor Information Centre. It offers five room types including hotel suites and motel units, some of which have private access doors to the verandah. The building dates back to the 1920’s with certain rooms retaining original pieces of furniture. When you get hungry you don’t need to go far, the hotel has an award winning bistro that have been voted the best dining in the North Coast multiple years in a row.

Dangar Falls Lodge Camp and Caravan
A peaceful place to unwind, the Dangar Falls Lodge Camp and Caravan is just walking distance from the Dangar Falls waterfall. There you’ll discover one of the best swimming holes in Australia! There are two forms of accommodation available. The Lodge offers self-contained indoor accommodation that is separated into two wings; the Hakea Wing sleeps up to nine, while the Waratah Wing sleeps up to four. Meanwhile the surrounding campsite has seven powered camping and caravan sites, as well as unpowered sites close enough to Dangar Falls you can fall asleep to the sounds of the waterfall.

The Frontier Motel
A lovely little motel in Dorrigo, The Frontier Motel is known for its friendly service and easy remote check in process. Queen and twin bed rooms are available, all of which feature a fridge, microwave and ensuite bathroom. There’s complimentary Wi-Fi available and ample on-site parking, with the option to put your car just outside the room. All in all the motel is a comfortable and affordable place to base yourself while exploring everything the surrounding region has to offer.

Bellbird Hollow
Approximately 35 minutes north-west of Dorrigo lies 200 acres of stunning forest known as Bellbird Hollow. The space is available for self-sufficient campers to pitch a tent or set up the camper trailer and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. Due to the condition of the road it’s 4 wheel drive access only and mobile reception is limited. Try your hand at gold prospecting in the creek, go for a hike through the untouched rainforest or see if you can catch a fish for dinner.

Settlers Corner
A small, one acre property just outside of Dorrigo, Settlers Corner offers a space for self contained motorhomes and caravans to set up. They only accept one booking at a time so you’ll have exclusive access to the riverside camp area which is surrounded by trees and overlooks paddocks. Have a dip in the creek during the day then sit next to a crackling campfire at night, taking the time to gaze up at the stars. Power and water is included but guests need to have their own toilet and shower facilities.

Blicks River Camping
Another self-sufficient camping spot just for those with a 4 wheel drive car, Blicks River Camping is located near the river in Dundurrabin. There are 60 acres of bushland to explore with no allocated campsites. This means you can set up wherever you like! There’s a pit toilet available if you don’t have your own and pets are welcome to come. Go for a swim in the river, see if you can spot a platypus or turtle, and just enjoy being in the great outdoors, breathing in that clean country air.
Ebor Falls Hotel Motel
A family friendly place, the Ebor Falls Hotel Motel has three types of accommodation to choose from. There’s seven motel rooms which suit groups of up to three or four people, each of which has an ensuite bathroom, TV and kettle. Next door is a large house that fits up to 20 people. It has two bathrooms, a full-sized kitchen and is perfect for large group get togethers. At the back of the hotel there’s five powered caravan sites, as well as a number of unpowered sites. As an added bonus, the hotel has a highly rated bistro serving up delicious country meals for lunch and dinner.

Little Styx Cabins
A regenerative pastoral property, Moffat Falls has a range of ecotourism facilities and accommodation options across the property. One of the options is the Little Styx Cabins, a pair of historic bush cabins that were once the quarters for the Point Lookout Timber Mill. Each one can sleep 12 people and has hot showers, wood fire heating and flushing toilets. Located near the headwaters of the Little Styx River, these rustic cabins provide a space for people to get away from the modern world and live simply, spending time walking through nature and fly-fishing in the river.

Platypus Eco Cabin
Want to get away from everything but still enjoy a touch of luxury? The Platypus Eco Cabin might be the answer. This self-contained, beautifully designed off-the-grid cabin is surrounded by farm and bushland. The open plan living area has huge windows and sliding doors, giving panoramic views of the surrounding area. Inside there’s a nature inspired bathroom with a rain shower, while out on the verandah there’s a clawfoot bathtub to relax in. Tom’s Cabin
Nestled amongst the bushland of New England National Park, Tom’s Cabin is a simple bushwalkers cabin. There’s no electricity and it’s quite remote so you’ll need to bring everything you need with you. Spend time exploring the nearby creek and trying to spot some of the native wildlife that call the area home, including wallabies and lyrebirds. The nearby Tea Tree Falls walking trail winds through an ancient beech forest and if you start early enough you could hike all the way to the famous Point Lookout, where you can take in panoramic views of the rainforest.

Moffat Falls Cottage
Another lodging at Moffat Falls property, Moffat Falls Cottage is a full self-contained unit that overlooks the waterfall it’s named for. It has an outdoor balcony and seating area, separate bedroom and wood fired heating. The cottage was created to be a secluded escape for couples who enjoy nature. The Residence
In another part of the New England National Park is The Residence, a modern weekend retreat that makes an ideal base for exploring the park. The four-bedroom cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, outdoor seating areas with a fire pit, indoor lounge and modern bathroom. Plenty of natural light comes in through the large windows and there are wood fired heaters to keep you warm on cooler nights. The Residence lies near the Snow Gum Walk Track, a 1km stretch of tail through the rainforest. One end links to the much longer Lyrebird Walk Track while the other ends at the Point Lookout carpark.

The Chalet
If The Residence sounded good to you make sure you also take a peek at The Chalet. Located in the same area of the New England National Park, The Chalet is just the right size for a small family or couple. Like the other two it’s quite remote and you need to bring your own supplies, but you’ll be rewarded with incredible views of the surrounding landscape. It has one bedroom with a queen bed, a modern bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. Take advantage of the serenity and sit out on the deck, soaking in the view while enjoying a private sundowner.

Dunolly Cabin
Just two minutes north of Ebor is Dunolly Cabin. Built on a working farm, it’s a simple yet accommodating place to stay. There’s two bedrooms, a bathroom and open plan living area with a fully equipped kitchen. If you feel like cooking outside you can use the BBQ on the verandah and as an added bonus it’s pet friendly, allowing for a true family holiday! Since it’s a farm you can expect to see animals wandering around (which will delight the kids!), while also giving the place a sense of quiet and comfort that only the country can bring.

Hernani Wilderness Hut
Part of the WeilHouse Living portfolio, Hernani Wilderness Hut offers a unique, rustic experience. Characterised as a bush cabin, the hut is surrounded by a century old orchard and is where the old Hernani School once stood. It was built using recycled materials and is powered by solar electricity. The design is open plan, with four sleeping spaces, inside and outside bathrooms, and a simple kitchen with a slow combustion oven, gas stove and no fridge. Just 10 minutes drive from Dorrigo is House on a Hill. This full-sized farmhouse is a great spot for a getaway with a small group of friends or family as it has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a washing machine. The bedrooms have large glass windows with panoramic views of the surrounding farmlands, giving you a sense of peace from the moment you wake up. The Old Butcher Shop Cabin
Simple, stylish and just outside of Ebor, the Old Butcher Shop Cabin is well suited to being a home base while you spend your days exploring the surrounding national parks. The studio cabin doesn’t offer much privacy so is great for couples or close friends looking for a two person getaway. There’s two king single beds, a kitchen, ensuite bathroom and laundry. It’s surrounded by a working farm so you might spot a cow or two and if you need something during your stay Damian, the host and farmer, is happy to help.
