Spotted at Seasons of New England, Holli and Sybella walk us through what it’s like starting a small business as a mother / daughter team.

Why did you start a business together?

Sybella – The reason mum and I started Notetaker was because we needed a project and a fun thing to do together. Ever since we started, I feel like I have a stronger bond with my mum and I’ve gotten to know her better.

Holli – Sybella and her friends were giving each other notebooks at every birthday. One day we were talking about how good it would be to design our own and gift them to her friends – so we did! Her friends loved them and we enjoyed the process of doing it together, so we decided to start note taker.

What has been your most memorable moment?

Sybella – The Season of New England market. It was pouring rain and we still had fun – it was filled with lots of laughter.

Holli – The Seasons of New England market was so good for us to do together, we had a lot of fun and shared a lot of laughs. Memorable moments for me also include the design process with Sybella and the collaboration process when we work together.

What do you have planned for the future?

Sybella – I think one day we’ll have a shop and maybe some more items to buy.

Holli – Doing more designs and branching out to other stationary products.

If you could give one piece of advice about starting a small business with a family member, what would it be?

Sybella – I would personally say do it. It will be a great outcome and it’s really enjoyable and so much fun!

Holli – Do it. You will make so many incredible memories together.
